This newsletter is intended to keep all interested parties informed of news and initiatives associated with the Clutha River Parkway project. We are working to establish NZ’s largest river park along the entire Clutha River corridor from Wanaka to the sea.
Ministry for Environment Backs Clutha River Parkway:
On January 28, Fiona Morgan, General Manager, Corporate and Community, Sustainable Management Fund, confirmed that the Ministry would provide funding for the Clutha River Parkway project, up to $50,750 to June 30. During a meeting in Wanaka, Fiona Morgan said that the project fits the MfE’s criteria well, and that the Ministry would also consider on-going funding. The meeting was preceded by a site visit to part of the Upper Clutha River corridor.
The Central Lakes Trust has already granted the Clutha River Parkway Steering Group $100,000, and has allowed an uplift deferment while further funds were sought.
The Steering Group has now achieved its first budget, and will proceed with the project as soon as possible.
